Why You Need To Maximize Your Millennials [INFOGRAPHIC]

Millennials are already the majority generation in the workforce, and several million more are entering the workforce this summer.

What does this mean to today’s business? How do we lead and mentor Gen Y? How do our cultures and communication styles need to adapt?

Consider the following:

  • Millennials state that “meaningful work” and “social media freedom” are more important than a high salary
  • 65% stated that personal development was the biggest factor when choosing their current job
  • 80% said they would prefer real-time feedback rather than wait for annual performance reviews
  • 70% admitted they will be open to changing jobs once the economy improves

While it can be dangerous to lump 80 million people into one composite person – and we must treat everyone as individuals rather than let stereotypes guide our decision-making – clearly, the attitudes of those surveyed toward work and careers differs greatly from previous generations.

In order to attract and retain the best and brightest, it is up to today’s business leaders to embrace these changes. We must become an organization Millennials want to work for – and managers/mentors they want to work with.

To learn more about the who, how, and why of leading Gen Y, take a look below at this infographic produced by MBA@UNC and the Young Entrepreneurs Council. And then ask yourself:

How do I need to change in order to lead and inspire the new majority?
